Jalāl al-Dīn Rūmī - I Am the One

My crazy heart is all tied up again,
but the real crazy is the one who has no idea
about the heart and has never felt its tugging.
I don’t come from the earth or the sky,
nor from fire or water.
I became the One
whose name everybody takes an oath to.
I became Jesus to that moon.
I rose up and passed through the skies.
I am the drunk Moses.
God himself lives inside this patched cloak.
I'm crazy, insane, drunk out of my mind!
I don’t listen to advice and deserve to be locked up.
I'm the tavern’s rind.
Why should I even be called a Sufi?
Who thinks a glass alone is enough?
‘Who can be happy with just one glass?
I've been falling up and down like a drunk,
rolling like a ball in the square.
I've been fully submerged and drawn into that sea.
Why should I just be a drop?
My heart and soul have come alive!
Why should I act as if I'm dead?
‘When Muhammad sees me drunk, my face pale,
he kisses my eyes, then I prostrate before him.
I am today’s Muhammad,
but not Muhammad of the past.
I am the phoenix of the time,
not some small hungry bird.
I am the sultan of today, not yesterday's man.

Jalāl al-Dīn Rūmī - You dance inside my chest

Quotes

“Dance, when you're broken open. Dance, if you've torn the bandage off. Dance in the middle of the fighting. Dance in your blood. Dance when you're perfectly free.”

Dancing is not just getting up painlessly, like a leaf blown on the wind; dancing is when you tear your heart out and rise out of your body to hang suspended between worlds.

" In order to understand the dance,

one must be still.

In order to truly understand stillness,

one must dance."

In your light I learn how to love. In your beauty, how to make poems. You dance inside my chest where no-one sees you, but sometimes I do, and that sight becomes this art.

Whosoever knoweth the power of the dance, dwelleth in God.

Dance where you can break yourself up to pieces and totally abandon your worldly passions.

Arise oh day! The atoms are dancing!

For him the spheres and wind are dancing

Souls ecstatic with joy are dancing

I’ll whisper in your ear where they are dancing

Each atom in the wind or desert

Is good-natured, like this, we are enchanted

Each atom, whether happy or sad

Is bewildered by the sun, happy without reason
