Jalāl al-Dīn Rūmī ~ Untill Judgement Day

 Because I cannot sleep
I make music at night.
I am troubled by the one
whose face has the color of spring flowers.
I have neither sleep nor patience,
neither a good reputation nor disgrace.
A thousand robes of wisdom are gone.
All my good manners have moved a thousand miles away.
The heart and the mind are left angry with each other.
The stars and the moon are envious of each other.
Because of this alienation the physical universe
is getting tighter and tighter.
The moon says, 'How long will I remain
suspended without a sun?'
Without Love's jewel inside of me,
let the bazaar of my existence be destroyed stone by stone.
O Love, You who have been called by a thousand names,
You who know how to pour the wine
into the chalice of the body,
You who give culture to a thousand cultures,
You who are faceless but have a thousand faces,
O Love, You who shape the faces
of Turks, Europeans, and Zanzibaris,
give me a glass from Your bottle,
or a handful of being from Your Branch.
Remove the cork once more.
Then we'll see a thousand chiefs prostrate themselves,
and a circle of ecstatic troubadours will play.
Then the addict will be freed of craving.
and will be resurrected,
and stand in awe till Judgement Day.

Hafiz Shirazi ~ Attachments!

 Sweet Heart,
Do you really want me to speak to you
About all your attachments,
Your attachments! My dear,
Let’s not speak of those,
For Hafiz understands the sufferings
Of your heart.
Hafiz knows
The torments and agonies
That every mind on the way to Annihilation in the Sun
Must endure.
So at night in my prayers I often stop
And ask a thousand angels to join in
And Applaud,
And Applaud
Anything in this world
That can bring your heart comfort!”

Jalāl al-Dīn Rūmī ~ Wings

A voice out of this world
                calls on our souls
                not to wait any more
                get ready to move
                to the original home

                your real home
                your real birth place
is up here with the heavens
let your soul take a flight
                like a happy phoenix

                you've been tied up
                your feet in the mud
your body roped to a log
                break loose your ties
get ready for the final flight

                make your last journey
                from this strange world
                soar for the heights
                where there is no more
separation of you and your home

                God has created
your wings not to be dormant
as long as you are alive
you must try more and more
to use your wings to show you're alive

                these wings of yours
are filled with quests and hopes
                if they are not used
                they will wither away
                they will soon decay

                you may not like
what i'm going to tell you
                you are stuck
                now you must seek
                nothing but the source

Jac O' Keeffe ~ It just is

Nothing sees that which is beyond mind. It just is.

If something could see 'it', there would then still be two 'there'. Mind can't go 'there'. It's beneath mind all the time. It's underneath the stories all the time.
Once the ability to believe the stories is gone, it's all that's left. It's outside of time. And you 'know' 'it', but you don't know what you know, and you don't know how you know it.

You are 'it' and you can't not be 'it'. You can't add to 'it', and you can't take away from 'it'. 'It' doesn't have a colour, a smell, or a sound.

'It' is what you are outside of all ideas of what you could be.

Nothing knows 'it', there's nothing and nobody to know 'it', but 'it' is known.

Ralph Waldo Emerson ~ Silence

We live in succession, in division, in parts, in particles.

Meantime within man is the soul of the whole;
the wise silence; the universal beauty, to which every part and particle is equally related; the eternal ONE.

And this deep power in which we exist, and whose beatitude is all accessible to us, is not only self-sufficing and perfect in every hour, but the act of seeing and the thing seen, the seer and the spectacle, the subject and the object, are one.

... All goes to show that the soul in man is not an organ, but animates and exercises all the organs; is not a function, like the power of memory, of calculation, of comparison, but uses these as hands and feet; is not a faculty, but a light; is not the intellect or the will, but the master of the intellect and the will; is the background of our being, in which they lie, — an immensity not possessed and that cannot be possessed.  From within or from behind, a light shines through us upon things, and makes us aware that we are nothing, but the light is all.

Jalāl al-Dīn Rūmī ~ In the garden of your delight

 O Love!
Is it you bringing us harmony,
or is it the rose gardens
and apple orchards in you?

O bright moon!
Spin and revolve
and scatter your gleaming light
upon all who seek refuge in you!

The taste of bitterness
becomes sweetness in you!

The searching in the dark
finds the light of faith revealed in you!

You transform thistles into jasmine.
Many hearts yield
and surrender to the glory in you!

You have layered heaven,
and you have gifted us
with wings to soar into its mystery.

You transform our every thought
into a desire of the heart!
Everyone is gloriously bewildered in you!

O Love!
How divine is your luring!
Beauty flows from your unseen face!

Your very nature is radiant with joy!
The thrill of every union
is revealed in you!

You manifest vibrant hues in every flower!
Your touch dazzles all creation!

Every particle is attracted to you,
longing to unite
and dwell in you!

Even the excitement of the market wilts away
without your presence!

The vineyards and the meadows wither
without the rain of compassion in you!

Every tree in the garden learns
its dance from you!

Every branch sways
and moves to your rhythm!

The leaf and the fruit are drunk
from the life-giving water flowing in you!

If the garden longs
for the gift of eternal spring,
it is to yield its blossoms
to the divine breeze
from one breath in you!

Among all stars and planet
to any star spinning away
from the radiance in you!

How glorious is the laughter
in the garden of your delight!

In the place of a feast,
the soul, as your guest,
savors the delight in you!

I have tried to resist many times before,
and I know there is no joy without you!

There is no ecstasy without
uniting in sweet embrace in you!

I went on a journey and returned!
I traveled from the end to the beginning.

In my dream,
I see my soul forever grazing
in the splendor of the golden fields in you.

Every meadow is a playground
for those who swirl and sway in your love!

Even virgins give birth to new life
in the divine kingdom in you!

Every direction leads me nowhere!
Your love has broken every link.
You draw my wayward soul
toward the harbor of the Soul in you!

The enduring mountain
is humbled in your patience.
The heart is fearless to leap
into the veranda sheltered in you!

You have made  many openings in the stone,
the metal and the mountain,
that the heart has become like an ant
looking for a way into
the plates and fingers in you.

If I count until the end of time,
I would still fall short of describing your grace.

How can anyone measure with a cup
the sea of enchantment in you?

Ellen Davis ~ Tears

 Your tears spill a river
connecting all of the oceans of woe
so that they may together wash clean this blood soiled earth.
Your tears are the Divine within humanity
crying for ItSelf, mourning what we have forgotten
and reminding us of who we are.
Will you let yourself drown in these tears,
or will you sail on them towards greater wholeness?
