Jalaluddin Rumi and Shams-e Tabrizi

One day Molavi invited Shams Tabriz to his home. Shams accepted the invitation, but after he arrived there asked for a glass of wine. Jalaluddin Rumi astonished: “Do you drink wine?” “Yes” Shams answered.

– “but I didn’t know!”
– “You know now, so bring some wine.”
– “But it is too late, how can I bring it?”
– “Ask one of your servants.”
– “But how can I ask them to wine? You know it is not appropriate for me.”
– “So, go and buy some wine yourself.”
– “People know me in this city, how can I go to wine-sellers’ neighborhood?”
– “If I am your guest, you should bring some wine for me, because I cannot eat nor drink without wine.”
That was how Jalaluddin Rumi took a bottle and went to wine-sellers’ neighborhood. Nobody noticed him until he entered the neighborhood. “What is Molavi here for?” people asked themselves and followed him. They saw that he bought a bottle of wine from the only open store and came out from the bar.

So, a number of people followed him and asked the others to join them. After a while a large number of people gathered; therefore, one of his adversaries shouted: “O people, Sheikh Jalaluddin Rumi your liturgist just bought a bottle of wine.”

People began to curse and insult Molavi. At this time, Shams arrived and shouted: “why are you insulting your liturgist? The bottle is vinegar not wine; O people!”

When they discovered the truth, they kissed Molavi’s hands again.”

“Why did you played with me tonight?” Jalaluddin Rumi asked. “I arranged it, because you should have known that what you have is just a mirage. You thought that having respect between common people is an eternal wealth. Now you experienced that a bottle of wine will ruin all of it in just a minute. If your wealth was what you lost in a minute tonight, so rely on something else.”

Guthema Roba - Now

I hear some people saying that the present moment or NOW becomes the past even before we finish saying the word. I feel there is some misunderstanding around this. In the first place, NOW has nothing to do with time. It is not a moment in time. It is not something that moves forward into the future. NOW is the breath of life. Does your breath know past of future? There is no distinction between NOW and God. NOW also means eternity. Eternity does not mean forever. It means a pure space into which the past, the present and the future become one single happening.  When you experience as it is without past memory, you are tasting the honey of eternity.  Tell me dear friend, wherever you are or whatever you might be doing, have you ever left NOW? It is not possible. Now is the ocean that holds the cosmos. It is a miracle hidden inside everything and everyone.

Nancy Neithercut ~ Our beautiful humanness

I have spoken with many who believe that after the shift there is no self
they are usually people who are trying to escape pain that comes with being a human being.  They feel that many of their emotions are bad like anger or sadness
And I have spoken with many who say they have shifted and that there is no self
And I say well who is speaking

Awakening is realizing that the self and things and time never existed ...there never were any mountains
And yet the passion play of you and me and we continues somewhat like before
The self continues to look out for it self
that's its job
Yet as imaginary separation is no longer believed, this never feels like there's someone doing life or that life is happening to a someone

And many of us sing of this the rest of their lives

These stories are all we can know...
It’s what we are
After the shift it’s like living in between the known ‘worded’ world and nothing at all.

It's like infinite parentheses of echoes reflecting silhouettes dancing on wall-less canyons
of vast rich untold stories flowing through you
singing of a most marvelous unbearably beautiful enormity of this placelessness
this hugeness of vast measureless empty silent brilliance singing
this inescapable vast unknowingness rippling shimmering in primordial tears flowing through empty footsteps trodden by no one by everyone...

and there is truly not even nothing left
the last spark of hope for love died
and with it the last hope of other

And you can feel suspended as nothingness
As the wind and the light and life flow through you as you
Simultaneously everything and nothing
an unspeakable awe floods the dream
Of you of me of we

There is a most beautiful ache it is joy and sorrow and longing and love and awe
but it's really not like anything at all is it
It is this deep current of unowned unnamed emotion that fills us and empties us and reminds us of our beautiful humanness

Fariduddin Attar ~ Love

In Love young and old are the same.
In Love loss and gain are the same.
In Love the worlds are the same.
In Love autumn and spring are the same.
Its down is up and up is down.
The earth and heavens are the same.
The place of Love is a circle,
Each spot is equal to the other.
If the Beloved scorns you or welcomes you,
It’s all the same.
In the tradition of Love to die
Is the same as gaining eternal life.

From each, Love demands a mystic silence.
What do all seek so earnestly? Tis Love.
Love is the subject of their inmost thoughts,
In Love no longer "Thou" and "I" exist,
For self has passed away in the Beloved.
Now will I draw aside the veil from Love,
And in the temple of mine inmost soul
Behold the Friend, Incomparable Love.
He who would know the secret of both worlds
Will find that the secret of them both is Love.

Kabir ~ Tū kā tū ~ You, only you

 Hey wise wanderer, what’s the
secret?
Just live your life well.
In this world, fl owers, branches—
wherever I look,
you, only you.

An elephant is you
in elephant form,
an ant is just a little you. As
elephant driver
you sit on top. The one who drives
is you, only you.

With thieves you become a thief,
you’re among the outlaws too.
You rob someone and run away.
The cop who nabs the thief is you,
only you.

With givers you become a giver,
you’re among the paupers too.
As a beggar you go begging.
The donor is you, only you.

In man and woman
you shine the same,
Who in this world
would call them two?
A baby arrives and starts to cry.
The babysitter is you, only you.

In earth, ocean,
every creature, you alone
shine forth. Wherever
I look, only you.

Kabir says, listen seekers,
You’ve found the guru
right here, right now!

Elizabeth Gilbert - Big Magic

Look, I don’t know what’s hidden within you.
I have no way of knowing such a thing.
You yourself may barely know, although I suspect you’ve caught glimpses.
I don’t know your capacities, your aspirations, your longings, your secret talents.

But surely something wonderful is sheltered inside you.
I say this with all confidence, because I happen to believe we are all walking repositories of buried treasure.
I believe this is one of the oldest and most generous tricks the universe plays on us human beings, both for its own amusement and for ours:
The universe buries strange jewels deep within us all, and then stands back to see if we can find them
.
The hunt to uncover those jewels - that’s creative living.

The courage to go on that hunt in the first place - that’s what separates a mundane existence from a more enchanted one.

The often surprising results of that hunt - that’s what I call Big Magic.
