Wanshi Shogaku ~ Silent and serene

Silent and serene, forgetting words
Bright clarity appears before you.

When you reflect it, you become vast.
Where you embody it, you are uplifted.

Solitary and shining, a river of stars,
Snow covered pines,
Clouds enveloping the peak.

In darkness it is most bright,
While hidden all the more manifest.

The crane dreams in the winter mist.
The autumn waters flow far in the distance.
Endless kalpas are totally empty,
All things completely the same.

When wonder exists in serenity,
all achievement is forgotten in illumination.

Only silence is the supreme speech,
Only illumination the universal response.

Responding without falling into achievement,
Speaking without involving listeners,
The ten thousand forms majestically glisten
And expound the dharma.

Llewellyn Vaughan-Lee ~ Winter

art Wendy Andrew

“This is a season of completion, when all that has been experienced in the abundance of form completes its journey, discovers its deeper significance. Without this space the sacred would lack a foundation. This is when we “take upon us the mystery of things.” We become the space where form and the formless meet, where the heart is empty and full and love opens the door between the worlds. Life and death belong together  in ways we rarely understand. Death is not just the end of the cycle of life, but a deepening of the journey. Completion is a realization, not just a conclusion.
And yet it needs an inner strength to fully honor this cycle of the sacred, to allow life’s book to turn to this empty page. We have to acknowledge that we are a part of a greater whole than we can imagine, a whole that includes the formless as well as the multitude of forms. Hopefully during the cycle of the seasons we have learned this strength—hopefully the sacred has taken us to this place where we are no longer frightened by the unknown.”

Nisargadatta Maharaj ~ Nothing but the Consciousness

art Paradox Aaron

Who ? Which one ? What? When?
All these questions are conceptual pictures in Consciousness.
They are as real as a mirage or a dream.
The totality of the manifestation and all that it contains, is Consciousness, Uniqueness.
There is nothing but the Consciousness, not aware of itself in its noumenic subjectivity, and yet everything is perceived by It as a phenomenal manifestation that expresses itself objectively.
If you understand the deep meaning of this concept there is nothing else to understand.
What we think to be a phenomenal reality is nothing but appearance, an inconsistent shadow, while what we really are is Consciousness, formless Brahaman.

Baisao ~ Life as it comes

Making the busy streets my home
right down in the heart of things
only one friend shares my poverty
this single scrawny wooden staff.
Having learned the ways of silence
within the noise of urban life
I take life as it comes to me
and everywhere I am is true.

Sattva Lynn ~ Into the Arms of Intimacy

 artist unknown

 A beautiful status just poured
through my heart -
however, when I used the
spelling mechanism
that appeared on here
to correct a mistake I had made

something happened,
and Facebook said:
'Something went wrong...'
and the whole poem was lost.

And instantly, naturally, all on their own,
tears just started to pour from me.
And as I was crying I said to myself:
'It seems the tears mattered more than the status.'

In other words, the tears,
and what they represented inside
mattered more for my growth;
and even the growth of us all,
than the status I was going to share.

And losing that status was the catalyst
for something very Sacred:

*For, since it is happening,
it must be part of Sacredness.*

We cannot know all the reasons
that everything happens
the way that it does.

For, every drop of what happens
to me and everyone and everything,
is somehow perfectly intertwined
to awaken and thus, bless us all -
even if it does not always feel like a blessing.

And, we are going to
encounter personally,
and bear witness to
innumerable thoughts,
feelings, situations and happenings

that are going to seem painful,
to downright cruel or unbearable,
nonsensical, unjust -
to everything in between
or either extreme.

But, if we can...if we can reach inside
beyond all of that -
with great courage, and deep Care
for our own Well Being

to the deeper meaning and purpose
of why we are here:

to rediscover our true Self,
which is beyond suffering and pain,
since it is causeless and free -

then we are using this moment
for its intended purpose,
no matter what appears to be happening.

And nothing, nothing, but wanting to
approach this moment, our self, our Heart -

asking to use it and be able
to use it in the way,
Life, Wisdom, Totality would like us to...
will bless us all more.

Nothing will bring us more deeply
into the Arms of Intimacy, of Love,
than this.  🌿

Ed Crowley ~ The Unknown Wanderer

The Unknown Wanderer
             abides in Equanimity

                      Unmoved
               by the winds of joy
              or sorrow, the Sage
                   silently follows
                      the Way in
                    the calmness
                    of tranquility

         fixing his mind steadfast,
       becoming one with change,
          he drops ‘self’ for “Self”

     The Sage observes seasons
come and go and while others
       adjust to the different times,
it’s all the same to the Sage,
       who abides as Change Itself

               The sutras say,
           “To seek is to suffer.
        To seek nothing is bliss."
        When you seek nothing,
            you're on the Path

       The Unknown Wanderer
         is like Dōgen, who stated,
                “Do not ask me
              where I am going,
                  As I travel in
             this limitless world,
              Where every step
              I take is my home.”

              Thus every step
             is the Path for him,
            as he wanders and
           exists, to simply roam

                  Nonetheless,
           wherever you choose
             to abide and dwell,
                    will always
                 and forever be,
                   considered,
             my one true home

Amoda Maa ~ Invitation to silence

INVITATION TO SILENCE

Silence is ever-present in everything. It exists prior to all form. It is the groundless ground of being. You don’t have to go anywhere or do anything to find it, because it’s actually who you are.

Silence is the nature of your innermost being, and when you wake up out of the dream of mistaken identity, you discover that you, too, are in fact inseparable from this silence.

Silence is what is here when you stop giving your attention to the movement of the mind and stop following the thoughts “I need to find time for silence,” “I have to get away from all this business to get some peace,” or “If only I could stop the thoughts in my head.”

In seeing the illusory nature of this kind of thinking and the futility of all running away or running toward, you come to a full stop, and what is revealed in this stopping is the ever-present silence of pure being.

This full stop is not a head-on collision with something hard and finite.

Instead, it is open-ended: silence has no boundary, no landing place, no center, no location, and no reference point for where it begins or ends.

You find yourself in a new dimension of seeing in which awareness is recognized as the only fact of reality.

When this awareness falls back into itself and becomes rooted in itself, an unlimited unconditional silence is revealed at the core of everything experienced, whether it be the whisper of the wind or the thunder of a mega-ton truck on the highway.

Jiddu Krishnamurti ~ Passive awareness

Q: Why do we insist on separating the perceiver from the perception, the ‘rememberer’ from the memory? Is this not at the root of our trouble?

J.D.Krishnamurti: We separate it because the rememberer, the experiencer, the thinker, becomes permanent by separation. *Memories are obviously fleeting; so the rememberer, the experiencer, the mind, separates itself because it wants permanency.* *The mind that is making an effort, that is striving, that is choosing, that is disciplined, obviously cannot find the real; because, as we said, through that very effort it projects itself and sustains the thinker.*

Now, how to free the thinker from his thoughts? This is what we are discussing. Because, whatever he thinks must be the result of the past, and therefore he creates god, truth, out of memory, which is obviously not real. In other words, the mind is constantly moving from the known to the known. *When memory functions, the mind can move only in the field of the known; and when it moves within the field of the known, it can never know the unknown.* So, our problem is, how to free the mind from the known. To free ourselves from the known, any effort is detrimental, because *effort is still of the known.* *So, all effort must cease.* Have you ever tried to be without effort? If I understand that all effort is futile, that all effort is a further projection of the mind, of the "I", of the thinker, if I realize the truth of that, what happens? If I see very clearly the label "poison" on a bottle, I leave it alone. There is no effort not to be attracted to it. Similarly - and in this lies the greatest difficulty - , if I realize that any effort on my part is detrimental, if I see the truth of that, then I am free of effort. Any effort on our part is detrimental, but we are not sure, because we want a result, we want an achievement - and that is our difficulty. Therefore, we go on striving, striving, striving. But God, truth, is not a result, a reward, an end. Surely, it must come to us, we cannot go to it. If we make an effort to go to it, we are seeking a result, an achievement. *But for truth to come, a man must be passively aware. Passive awareness is a state in which there is no effort; it is to be aware without judgment, without choice, not in some ultimate sense, but in every way; it is to be aware of your actions, of your thoughts, of your relative responses, without choice, without condemnation, without identifying or denying, so that the mind begins to understand every thought and every action without judgment.*

This evokes the question of whether there can be understanding without thought.”

Guru Rinpoche ~ Awakened mind

Look into the awakened mind of your own awareness!

It has neither form nor color, neither center nor edge. At first, it has no origin but is empty. Next, it has no dwelling place but is empty.
At the end, it has no destination but is empty.

This emptiness is not made of anything and is clear and cognizant. When you see this and recognize it, you know your natural face. You understand the nature of things. You have then seen the nature of mind, resolved the basic state of reality and cut through doubts about topics of knowledge.

This awakened mind of awareness is not made out of any material substance; it is self-existing and inherent in yourself. This is the nature of things that is easy to realize because it is not to be sought for elsewhere.

This is the nature of mind that does not consist of a concrete perceiver and something perceived to fixate on. It defies the limitations of permanence and annihilation. In it there is no thing to awaken; the awakened state of enlightenment is your own awareness that is naturally awake.

In it there is no thing that goes to the hells; awareness is naturally pure. In it there is no practice to carry out; its nature is naturally cognizant. This great view of the natural state is present in yourself: resolve that it is not to be sought for elsewhere.

Sri Anandamayi Ma ~ Words

"To speak means to float on the surface;
unless the mind remains on the surface, words will not come.
So long as one is immersed in the depths,
there is not even the possibility to talk;
but as soon as one comes up to the surface, speech will issue forth.
This is why language cannot always fully express one's feelings and emotions.
One can often hear people say, 'I am unable to put into words what I feel'.
Does this not show how limited and imperfect human language is?
It cannot even convey the little you understand,
how much less the enormous amount that lies beyond your ken!
Try to learn the science of using and understanding
the hidden language of the heart and you will be able to accomplish
everything without words."

Ramana Maharshi ~ Silence

D: What is mauna?

M: That state which transcends speech and thought is mauna; it is meditation without mental activity. Subjugation of the mind is meditation; deep meditation is eternal speech. Silence is ever-speaking; it is the perennial flow of ‘language’. It is interrupted by speaking; for words obstruct this mute ‘language’.
Lectures may entertain individuals for hours without improving them. Silence, on the other hand, is permanent and benefits the whole of humanity. . . .
. . By silence, eloquence is meant. Oral lectures are not so eloquent as silence. Silence is unceasing eloquence. . . . It is the best language.
There is a state when words cease and silence prevails.

D: How then can we communicate our thoughts to one another?

M: That becomes necessary if the sense of duality exists....

Nancy Neithercut ~ What's going on

Kaipuun-kyyneltäjä-–-The-Artisan-of-the-Tears-of-Longing

What's going on is all encompassing
It has no edges
There is nothing outside of it
If you think there is something outside of it
Then that's what's going on...
Nothing can be added to it
Where would it come from?
Nothing can be taken away
Where would it go?
There is nothing outside of it making it happen
It does itself
And you are never separate from what's going on
And if you feel separate
Than that's what's going on!
And through you
What's going on
What we call life
Gets to know to experience touch itself
We all know this aliveness
Its undeniable
How marvelous
That through the lens of self through this imaginary separation is life knowing itself
Yet also it knows that it knows
And is amazed
Knowing its amazement is unutterably wondrous
And through this mindstream.composed of shared learned words ....tree ocean
It appears that what's going on is divided and captured and put into little boxes of separate things and events
Yet there is nothing outside of what's going on that can capture it
It is never actually divided
The words are paltry pointers to ...
****all this *****
The word tree can never grow
The word water is not wet
I cannot taste the word saltiness
Yet what is going on has no qualities or characteristics without these words ideas concepts
There is no time dimension causality without description
Nor me
Nor you
Nor beauty
Nor love

Ibn ʿArabī ~ None other than He!

Know that God is never in anything,
nor is anything in Him.
He is neither inside
nor outside of anything.
None can see Him,
whether with the eyes of the head
or with the inner eye;
nor can any conceive Him with senses,
knowledge, mind, intelligence or imagination.
Only He can see Himself;
Only He can conceive Himself.
None can know Him;
Only He can know Himself.
He sees Himself by Himself;
He conceives Himself by Himself;
He knows Himself by Himself.
None other than He can see Him.
None other than He can know Him.
That which hides Him is His oneness.
None but Himself can hide Him.
The veil that hides Him is His own being.

Joan Tollifson ~ this is it, exactly as it is

artist unknown

The Quest for Perfection and Final Enlightenment

I used to imagine that someday I would arrive. I’d be fully enlightened. I’d never again bite my fingers, lose my temper, feel insulted, get upset, or experience dark moods. I’d be a wonderful, generous, kind, compassionate, loving person—all the time. I’d always be “present” and “aware,” never again “distracted” or “lost in thought.” Words of wisdom would flow ceaselessly from my mouth. In short, I’d be perfect. I would have arrived. I’d be okay at last. I could finally relax.

For a long time, I was very sure I hadn’t arrived yet. Eventually, I felt that I was close, very close—in fact, it seemed that sometimes I was fully there, in this place of boundless and selfless perfection and certainty, but then I’d find myself seemingly back in the Joan Show, flawed and imperfect, full of unenlightened emotional reactions and doubts, my mind wandering hither and thither. And again, I’d be convinced that “this isn’t it,” that “I’m not okay,” that “something more, better and different needs to happen.” And I imagined (and hoped) that one day “I” would stabilize permanently in the enlightened state. My “me” would be gone forever, never to return, and I would experience only a sense of open, spacious, boundless presence.

Eventually, I noticed something fishy about this whole set-up. Who exactly was this “I” who was trying to get rid of “me”? Were there two of us here? I also began to notice more and more clearly that this whole quest for Final Enlightenment was all about this phantom self, which I’d already discovered was unfindable and mirage-like, that wanted to improve itself by having no-self. Hmmm. Actually, this was pretty funny. I also noticed this search was also all about a “there” that never arrived (or never stayed put if it did seem to arrive) because, in fact, there was always only Here.

And while Here-Now is ever-present, the way it appears is ever-changing. It became clear that no experience lasts forever, and that any SENSE or EXPERIENCE of open spaciousness with no self-center was only another passing experience, one which I was referencing as “there” or “enlightenment.” But whatever momentary form present experiencing takes, it is always empty of any substantial or abiding shape, and it is always simply this present immediacy, which can never really be pinned down.

It began to dawn that no experience is more or less “THIS” (the Holy Reality, the One and Only) than any other experience, that there is no finish-line other than Here and Now, and that however far I appear to travel, I never depart from this one bottomless moment. There is no “there” outside of this, and there is no “me” apart from this present aliveness who could ever lose or attain it. The whole quest for Final Enlightenment was like a wave searching for and hoping to find and then finally stabilize as the ocean.

I also spent many years trying to be someone else—trying to be Ramana or Eckhart Tolle or Nisargadatta or Toni Packer or Tony Parsons or whoever else I thought was profoundly awake and enlightened and in some way vastly superior to me. I compared myself to these others and inevitably found myself defective and lacking. They seemed to have something that I didn’t, or else they had apparently lost something that I still had.

But eventually, I came to see that in this play of life, I’m being called upon to play Joan Tollifson, not Nisargadatta or Mother Teresa or anyone else, and at the same time, “Joan Tollifson” is no-thing that can be pinned down or separated out, and actually, “I” am the whole show and all the characters and the whole universe. Nothing was ever actually missing or out of place, and none of it was personal. It no longer mattered if someone else apparently had less frequent me-thoughts or less me-identity or less delusion than I apparently did—we were all indivisible expressions of one undivided whole, like waves in the ocean.

It didn’t matter anymore what the present moment looked like or how it felt. Of course, there were still preferences, desires, aversions, disappointments, and so on, and there was still a natural desire to wake up from suffering, but all of this was included, and none of it had any actual substance or persisting form. There is no final anything. There is ONLY this, even if it sometimes seems otherwise.

And then, there was that old nagging question: What IS this? Was “THIS” mind or matter, or what exactly was it? It seemed that “I” needed to find the “right” answer to this perplexing question. After all, “I” didn’t want to be clueless or fooled, especially when so many others seemed absolutely certain that they had The Right Answer. Why did I seem to feel doubtful and uncertain?

But wait a minute—this was only that same old mirage of “me” seemingly apart from “THIS” trying to grasp “it” in order to secure some kind of advantage (control, security, prestige, certainty) for “me.” The question itself (What is this?) doesn’t really make any sense. That separation been subject and object is always illusory, and THIS is not an object that is “out there” somewhere, and whatever this whole happening is, it is totality impossible to step outside of it to pin it down or figure it out. All there is, is present experiencing, whatever we call it. And beyond that, we are clueless. And this isn’t really a problem.

Life itself—present experiencing—is utterly obvious and unavoidable, yet totally inconceivable and ungraspable. It is showing up in infinitely different ways, in multiple fractal or holographic dimensions, in countless shapes and colors and textures. It includes sensing and imagining and thinking and perceiving, day-dreaming and mindfulness, being born and dying, the movies of waking life and the germinal emptiness of deep sleep—the whole seamless and inseparable happening with no inside or outside, no beginning or end. Just this, as it is.

Perfection is always already here, but this is not the perfection we imagined. This is the perfection that includes everything, even apparent imperfection, even feeling separate and being lost in The Story of Me with all its endlessly changing twists and turns. This all-embracing and all-inclusive perfection could be called unconditional love: it has room for everything to be just as it is, and it sees only itself everywhere. It recognizes that everything that appears is a kind of evanescent dream-like kaleidoscopic Rorschach blot vanishing as soon as it arrives.

That doesn’t make it something “unreal” to ignore or transcend. Rather, it opens the possibility of enjoying and BEING it in a whole new and more playful way. And it opens the possibility of holding our interpretations of what’s showing up much more loosely and tentatively. And although the interpretations are always questionable, the living actuality requires no belief at all. It simply can’t be grasped. But neither can it be avoided. In short, this is it, just exactly as it is.

Djalāl ad-Dīn Rûmî ~ "Who is there?"

 A certain man knocked
at his friend's door:
his friend asked:
"Who is there?"
He answered "I."
"Begone," said his friend,
"tis too soon!
at my table
there is no place
for the raw.
How shall the raw be cooked
but in the fire of absence?
What else will deliver him
from hypocrisy?"
He turned sadly away,
and for a whole year
the flames of separation
consumed him;
Then he came back
and again paced to and fro
beside the house of his friend.
He knocked at the door
with a hundred fears and reverence
lest any disrespectful word
might escape from his lips.
"Who is there?"
cried the friend.
He answered:
"Thou, O charmer
of all hearts."
"Now," said the friend,
"since thou art I,
come in,
there is no room
for two I's
in this house."

Fakhruddin 'Iraqi ~ All light is one

He who has lifted the veil sees multiplicity in properties,
not in Essence; hence he knows that changes in properties
cannot touch Essence, which owns a perfection subject to no mutability.

Light merely seems to change as it shines through colored glass,
but light has no color.
Its rays shine through the glass
and only then do hues and tints appear.

Don't you understand?

Come then into my eyes
and...look!

and you will see

a sun shining
through a thousand bits of glass
beaming to plain sight through each
a ray of color
Why should any difference appear between this one and that?
All light is one
but colors a thousandfold.

Yahia Lababidi ~ Silence

It may seem like a betrayal to speak of silence, to break an unspoken pact. Yet, whether we are conscious of it or not, it is there, inextricably woven into the fabric of our lives. As Sufi poet Rumi writes, “a person does not speak with words. Truth and affinity draws people. Words are only a pretext.” It exists in the gaps between our words and encounters with the natural world. In fact, silence is a platform from which we observe and interrogate ourselves and our world.

What’s more, silence is a prerequisite for certain vital solitary activities, such as contemplation, meditation, prayer, healing, as well as overhearing the dictates of our conscience.

But, ubiquity does not ensure intimacy. Thus, silence, this quiet capital of riches, is both under-considered and undervalued. Perhaps by learning to recognize our silences in their many guises, we may begin to demystify them and make them more intimate.

Whether longed for or reviled, summoned or thrust upon us, silence is an inescapable force in our lives. Yet curiously, as a discipline, Western Philosophy seems not to have deeply investigated this constant presence -- leaving it up to spirituality, poetry and psychology to explore this elusive territory. Perhaps for philosophers, maddened by their own music -- as they tend to be -- this slippery subject is perceived as a kind of rebuke to philosophy’s lust for logic and systems. In the words of that rare Western philosopher, Wittgenstein, who acknowledges the limits of reason and the sayable: “Whereof one cannot speak, thereof one must be silent.”

Djalâl ad-Dîn Rûmî ~ I am a painter

I am a painter, a maker of the seen and the hidden.
Every day I shape sublime forms. And then, when
God comes to view them . . . they and I melt away
in Him.

Every phantom knows it lives in my kingdom, and
if I wanted, I could make anything vanish so easily
from any distance, like wax in a flame.

I am both mingled with all and also magnificently
sovereign. This dual state of being and not being
are tides... I let ebb and flow.

There is something to be said for anyone who sits
alone with dignity and silently begs for God.

I am the partner of every affection and act. J am
the only one who is truly guilty, and I am the most
innocent at the same time.

In once finding myself so desolate and empty without
the Beloved, He finally took pity on me and filled
me with Itself.

His brush and all His paints were then, of course,
mine. I now use them to draw a map to your self, so
you wont get lost.

Mirabai `~ O Mind...

 O my mind,
Worship the lotus feet of the Indestructible One!
Whatever thou seest twixt earth and sky
Will perish.
Why undertake fasts and pilgrimages?
Why engage in philosophical discussions?
Why commit suicide in Banaras?
Take no pride in the body,
It will soon be mingling with the dust.
This life is like the sporting of sparrows,
It will end with the onset of night.
Why don the ochre robe
And leave Home as a sannyasi?
Those who adopt the external garb of a Jogi,
But do not penetrate to the secret,
Are caught again in the net of rebirth.
Mira's Lord is the courtly Giridhara.
Deign to sever, O Master.
All the knots in her heart.

Ḥāfeẓ-e Shīrāzī ~ A day of Silence

 A day of Silence
Can be a pilgrimage in itself.

A day of Silence
Can help you listen
To the Soul play
Its marvelous lute and drum.

Is not most talking
A crazed defense of a crumbling fort?

I thought we came here
To surrender in Silence,
To yield to Light and Happiness,
To Dance within
In celebration of Love’s Victory!

Hafez-e Shirazi ~ Drunk with Love

Beauty radiated in eternity
With its light; Love was born
And set the worlds alight.

It revealed itself to angels
Who knew not how to love;
It turned shyly towards man
And set fire to his heart.

Reason ventured to light
Its own flame and wear the crown,
But Your radiance
Turned the world
Of reason upside down.

Others got pleasure
As was their fate.
My heart was
Towards sadness inclined;
For me, sorrow was destined.

Beauty yearned to see itself;
It turned to man To sing its praise.

Hafiz wrote this song
Drunk with Love,
From a heart
Carrying a happy secret.

Sachal Sarmast ~ Truth, O Master

Master, Master, O master, O master
Moses, take us along, too, to the place where Beauty manifests itself
Who will witness the Beloved’s beauty if the sight makes you faint
Why speak of meeting Him someday
Why speak of meeting the Divine someday, O friend
It takes an epoch to meet just one’s own self
This intense divine beauty has left me wonder-struck!
This beauty has left me wonderstruck!
O how wonderstruck I am!
Ever since hearing that it would be possible to meet you on the day of resurrection
Your crazy lovers have raised a tumult worthy of Judgement Day
The warlike onslaught of your playful glances
Beloved, your distinctive coquetry
How wonderfully my devotion to you
Has turned me from a beggar to a king
O how wonderstruck I am!
Wood burned and became coal
Coal burned and became ash
When a sinful, wretched being like me burned
I became neither coal nor ash
Be it Mansur Hallaj or Sarmad, O Beloved
Or be it Sham Tabrezi
When they came to your lane, O Irresistible One
Each one sacrificed his life in Your Love
O how wonderstruck I am!
The heart which drinks from the Cup of Love
That heart always remains joyful and ecstatic
God is present everywhere, God is present all the time
The heart which, O master
The heart which, O beloved master
The heart which drinks from the Cup of Love
That heart always remains joyful and ecstatic
God is ever present, God is present in all
God is present everywhere, God is ever present.
Mansur Hallaj was hung on the gallows
‘I am Truth’ were his words
Master,’I am Truth’ were his words
The heart which.. O master, The heart which..
O beloved master, The heart which…
The heart which drinks from the Cup of Love,
That heart always remains joyful and ecstatic
God is present everywhere, God is ever present
God the Most High is present in all
God is ever present
Truth! Truth, O master.

Jalāl al-Dīn Rūmī ~ Cradle My Heart

 Last night,
I was lying on the rooftop,
thinking of you.
I saw a special Star,
and summoned her
to take you a message.
I prostrated myself to the Star
and asked her
to take my prostration
to that Sun of Tabriz.
So that with his light,
he can turn my dark stones
into gold.
I opened my chest
and showed her my scars,
I told her to bring me news
of my bloodthirsty Lover.
As I waited,
I paced back and forth,
until the child
of my heart became quiet.
The child slept,
as if I were rocking
his cradle.
Oh Beloved,
give milk to the infant
of the heart,
and don't hold us
from our turning.
You have cared for hundreds,
don't let it stop with me now.
At the end,
the town of unity is
the place for the heart.
Why do you keep
this bewildered heart
in the town of dissolution?
I have gone speechless,
but to rid myself
of this dry mood,
oh Saaqhi,
pass the narcissus
of the wine.

Meher Baba ~ Seeking

The humour of the divine love-game
is that the One who is sought is Himself the seeker.
It is the Sought who prompts the seeker to ask,
Where can I find Him whom I seek?
The seeker asking, Where is God?
Is really God saying, Where indeed is the seeker!

Hafez-e Shirazi ~ Seeing God Everywhere!

Running
Through the streets
Screaming,

Throwing rocks through windows,
Using my own head
to ring great bells,

Pulling out my hair,
Tearing off my clothes,

Tying everything I own
To a stick,
And setting it on fire.

What else can Hafiz do tonight

To celebrate the madness,
The joy,

Of seeing God Everywhere!

Ḥāfeẓ-e Shīrāzī ~ Why complain?

 Why complain about life
If you are looking for good fish
And have followed some idiot
Into the middle of the copper market?

Why go crazy
If you are looking for fine silk
And you keep rubbing your hands
Against burlap and hemp sacks?

If your heart really needs to touch
A face that is filled with abundance
Then why didn’t you come
To this old man sooner?

For my cheek is
The universe’s cloister
And if you can make your prayers
Sweet enough tonight

Then Hafiz will lean over
And offer you all the warmth in my body
In case God is busy
Doing something else somewhere.

Why complain if you are looking
To quench your spirit’s longing
And have followed a rat into a desert.

If your soul really needs to touch a face
That is always filled with compassion
And tenderness then why,

Why my dear
Did you not come
to your friend Hafiz sooner?

Bruce Lee ~ Oneness of all Life

49 years ago today, Bruce Lee dropped his body (at the age of 32). To pay tribute to him on this anniversary, here’s a collection of some of his deepest quotes...

“I do not experience; I am experience. I am not the subject of an experience; I am that experience. I am awareness. Nothing else can be I or can exist.”

"When we suddenly awake to the realization that there is no barrier, and never has been, one realizes that one is all things – mountains, rivers, grasses, trees, sun, moon, stars, universe are all oneself. There is no longer a division or barrier between myself and others, no longer any feeling of alienation or fear. There is nothing apart from oneself and therefore nothing to fear. Realizing this results in true compassion. Other people and things are not seen as apart from oneself but, on the contrary, as one's own body."

“The difference between knowledge and enlightenment is that in the former a contrast exists between the knower and the known, whereas in the latter, there is no such contrast.”

“As long as we separate this oneness into two, we won’t achieve realization.”

“The oneness of all life is a truth that can be fully realized only when false notions of a separate self, whose destiny can be considered apart from the whole, are forever annihilated.”

"The medicine for my suffering I had within me from the very beginning, but I did not take it. My ailment came from within myself, but I did not observe it. Now I see that I will never find the light unless, like the candle, I am my own fuel, consuming myself."

“Sorrows are our best educator. A man can see further through a tear than a telescope.”

"Don't think. Feel. It is like a finger pointing at the moon. Do not concentrate on the finger, or you will miss all of the heavenly glory."

"Life is wide, limitless. There is no border, no frontier. The more we understand, the greater and deeper will be our contact with all that is around us."

“Zen is both something we are, our true nature expressing itself moment by moment, and something we do, a disciplined practice through which we can realize the joy of being. So, what is Zen? Stop trying to get an intellectual lock on something that is vast and boundless, far more than the rational mind can grasp. Just breathe in with full awareness.”

“To meditate means to realize the imperturbability of one’s original nature. Meditation means to be free from all phenomena, and calmness means to be internally unperturbed. There will be calmness, tranquility, when one is free from external objects and is not perturbed.”

"Empty your mind. Be formless, shapeless - like water. You put water into a cup, it becomes the cup. You put it into a bottle, it becomes the bottle. Water can flow or it can crash. Be water, my friend."
