Hafiz - O Pilgrim

O Pilgrim.
Come and look
into the mirror of this glass of wine !

And pick up your net,
the Pure Bird can never be caught.
There is nothing in this cage but wind.

Live for the moment !
When the water in the lake dried up,
Even Adam left the Garden of Safe Joy.

At the Mardi Gras of Life,
have one or two cups of wine, then leave.
Don’t hang around
waiting for an enlightened drunk!

Say to your heart: “My youth is gone.”
Even though you have picked no roses,
use your old head skillfully,
then do the right thing.

The puritan know-it-all never sees the drunkard
Or secrets hidden behind the veil.

O Wise One, those of us
who sit all day on Your threshold
have more than Earned our pay.
For service rendered,
to pay Your slaves in pity is OK.

When I handed the reins of my heart to You,
I gave up, forever,
any hope of becoming anything other than a horse.

O student of the cup of Hafiz: drink!
And then go like the wind
To the Beloved,
and tell him the story of this great wine !

Rumi - Because I cannot sleep

Because I cannot sleep
I make music at night.
I am troubled by the one
whose face has the color of spring flowers.
I have neither sleep nor patience,
neither a good reputation nor disgrace.
A thousand robes of wisdom are gone.
All my good manners have moved a thousand miles away.
The heart and the mind are left angry with each other.
The stars and the moon are envious of each other.
Because of this alienation the physical universe
is getting tighter and tighter.
The moon says, 'How long will I remain
suspended without a sun?'
Without Love's jewel inside of me,
let the bazaar of my existence be destroyed stone by stone.
O Love, You who have been called by a thousand names,
You who know how to pour the wine
into the chalice of the body,
You who give culture to a thousand cultures,
You who are faceless but have a thousand faces,
O Love, You who shape the faces
of Turks, Europeans, and Zanzibaris,
give me a glass from Your bottle,
or a handful of being from Your Branch.
Remove the cork once more.
Then we'll see a thousand chiefs prostrate themselves,
and a circle of ecstatic troubadours will play.
Then the addict will be freed of craving.
and will be resurrected,
and stand in awe till Judgement Day.

Nisargadatta Maharaj - Peace itself

Questioner: I am a Swede by birth. Now I am teaching Hatha Yoga in Mexico and in the States.

Maharaj: Where did you learn it?

Q: I had a teacher in the States, an Indian Swami.

M: What did it give you?

Q: It gave me good health and a means of livelihood.
M: Good enough. Is it all you want?

Q: Some measure of peace I did derive from Yoga.

M: Examine closely and you will see that the mind is seething with thoughts. It may go blank occasionally, but it does it for a time and reverts to its usual restlessness. A becalmed mind is not a peaceful mind. You say you want to pacify your mind. Is he, who wants to pacify the mind, himself peaceful?

Q: No. I am not at peace, I take the help of Yoga.

M: Don't you see the contradiction? For many years you sought your peace of mind. You could not find it, for a thing essentially restless cannot be at peace.

Q: There is some improvement.

M: The peace you claim to have found is very brittle any little thing can crack it. What you call peace is only absence of disturbance. It is hardly worth the name. The real peace cannot be disturbed. Can you claim a peace of mind that is unassailable?

Q: l am striving.

M: Striving too is a form of restlessness.

Q: So what remains?

M: The Self does not need to be put to rest. It is peace itself, not at peace.

Only the mind is restless. All it knows is restlessness, with its many modes and grades. The pleasant are considered superior and the painful are discounted.

What we call progress is merely a change over from the unpleasant to the pleasant. But changes by themselves cannot bring us to the changeless, for whatever has a beginning must have an end.

The Real does not begin; it only reveals itself as beginningless and endless, all-pervading, all-powerful, immovable prime mover, timelessly changeless.

Wu Hsin - Spiritual process

There is no difference
between The searching and the self that is searching.
Wu Hsin says make yourself hopeless.
It is hope that Provides the searching with momentum.
Activities are merely what one ‘does’, But not what one ‘is’.
What is present is Presence as a whole
and Merely the expression of the Absolute.
Surrender is where all effort has comes to an end,
Where all movement in The direction of getting something comes to an end.
Unconditional surrender eclipses any spiritual process.

Franklin Merrell-Wolff - The Rising Sun

THE RISING SUN.

Down through the -cycle of lives --
At last came the day and the hour
When in the sky, dark and grin,
That I scarce knew existed at all,
First there broke the dim, rare light
Which, during the days yet to follow,
Was due to become that absorbing brilliance,
Drowning the light of all other suns
So that they scarce more then penumbral darkness
Ever more should be.
A cloud of rose was the first I saw,
Hanging suspended in the Eastern sky,
Heralding the Sun beneath the rim,
A strange light it was filling more than eyes.
Lighting the tendrals of sorrowed heart,
Giving a joy I knew never before,
Giving a glimpse of the inner Soul,
Giving a touch of knowledge Divine.
Eyes weak, newly opened within,
Scarce more than one moment of that Light could stand.
Then vanished the cloud of rosy hue,
But the heart remained lightened
And the mind refreshed throughout that day.
What IT was I knew not and scarce dreamed,
But I knew It was glory and peace and joy
And that all else availed little beside.
So l searched the meaning, both high and low,
Until at last in a distant place,
Far from the haunts of dust laden men.
I found the ancient and noble Sage
Who taught me the promise of the rosy dawn.
In later days anew came the kindly Light,-
never twice the same, yet the same,
The rose blending into Divinely Golden Hue,
The luminous cloud foiled in radiant horizon.
Thus seven days rolled quickly by,
Each more richly filled than the last,
Then, all over the sky, Glory Ineffable;
Light, roling in Sound Celestial,
Nature, stilled by the song of the spheres,
Hosts, angelic and earthly, Joy filled,
There` rose, clear, strong and majestic,
Beyond all words and all conceiving,
The noble, eternal, Alayic Sun,
Filling the earth and the heavens,
The depths and the heights and all of space,
The inward and outward of all about,
With such ineffable Glory, Peace and Grandeur,
That all knowledge, understanding and feeling of man,
Were scarce a drop in an endless ocean.
No longer questioning, but Knowing,
No longer seeking, no room for aught but Joy,
The ancient pilgrimage ended, -Victor at last!

Dorothy Hunt - Only THIS

Continuous awakening belongs to only

THIS! that is already continuously awake.

It will never belong to anything

that conceives of itself as separate.

No thought can touch it

No concept can describe it

No practices can produce it

No belief can create it

And memory cannot sustain it.

Whatever you can gain, you can lose.

You are not an experience that comes and goes.

The mind that lives in time can neither

experience the timeless, nor hold on to Spirit.

THIS is not an identity to attain.

Its revelation comes in the shedding of identities.

Whatever you may realize, avoid hiding in

a new identity, no matter what words your mind may use.

THIS cannot be limited; all concepts are only pointers.

Stop trying

Stop imagining

Stop waiting

Stop postponing

Stop fixing a self that you are not.

Stop pretending to be what you are not.

Stop, simply STOP.

Notice what silently remains.

THIS is here before seeking

THIS is here before awakening

THIS is here after awakening

THIS is here without words

THIS is here with words.

Only THIS that is awake, aware,

pure, naked, unstained, indivisible,

and perfectly Whole.

JC Tefft - Pure Consciousness: The Last Frontier

A Three Episode Video Series on the Nature of Consciousness by JC Tefft

In this three episode video series - posted for viewing below - JC offers an in-depth overview of the nature of Consciousness, as well as the Source out of which all manifestations arise. He notes that Pure Consciousness, as pointed to by enlightened sages since ancient times, is not found through concepts of Mind, but is a "knowing" that Awakens, as attachments to the world, as conceived of Mind, pass away. Using findings of modern physics as a guide, JC sets forth in understandable terms how universal Mind works, and to Awaken unto that which is beyond Mind is to recognize, through a profound shift in perception, that the world, as conceived of Mind, is not the living Truth of what actually is so.
